NWS Alerts Script - Exclude Specific?
« on: July 03, 2024, 04:34:17 PM »
Using the NWS Alerts script, Is it possible to configure it to exclude a specific type of alert? I'm looking to exclude the Air Quality Alerts. My local NWS is now including Air Quality alerts from South Coast Air Quality Management District. They are not to many days in the past months that they don't issue alerts for dust, ozone, smog, etc. I just prefer to not include them.

thanks

the nws-alerts.php script does include the capability to exclude alerts by type, but.. two things:
1) I'm still rummaging around to find Curly's documentation on how that is implemented .. it's not in his basic readme html file through V1.41 (his last).  I'll keep looking.
2) I personally think that suppressing alerts is not a good idea.  Some visitors to your site may rely on the info and miss seeing information that possibly would alter their behavior outdoors.  The Air Quality alerts are ones that folks with underlying susceptibilities to poor air quality might just need to see to avoid an unfortunate outdoor episode.

I think this is what you are looking for.  Let me know if I inadvertently left something out.

Thank you this worked! Much appreciated.

The fact that there has been at least 45 days in the past 60 that has had some sort of AQ "Alert" and the fact that my local NWS office posts those alert in triplicate for some reason is what is leading me to just filter those for now. This time of year(heat) any location close to Los Angeles will always be over some limit to cause a AQ Alert.
I agree with your comment that the public may rely on my site for those alerts so I might put a temporary notice up that Air Qty Alert will no longer be included.

Thank you for your help.
