METAR feed down ?
« on: June 25, 2024, 03:16:58 AM »
I noticed that the METAR data page on my site is slow to load and data is not current. Is this a left over from todays problems that affected WXWire for most of the day?

Still not working this morning. Only seeing hourly updates, this started yesterday afternoon just before 5 pm central. Also, not working is the GRLevel3 radar for those that supplement radar with it. You can go into the ajax dashboard and remove this icon line and also turn off the metar in Settings-weather.php until it comes back. If you don't the site will load slowly, it hangs slightly looking for the icon.
The reason for removing the icon line is so you don't have an empty place. Not totally necessary, but looks cleaner.

Metar has been down since 16:00 yesterday, some are gradually coming back, some upto date, some with stale data.

Everything is working again here in Nebraska and the local ASOS where the metar comes off. The Grlevel3 radar is also getting data again. I know MESOWEST had an outage yesterday, maybe it was all tied together.

Thank You for this detailed update, we can rest assure that this situation will be put right at some stage, but it was clearly more serious then most of us on here assumed.

Would be very interested to find out what the main cause to this data centre breakdown, hopefully that will come to light in the near future.

Looks like here they may still have some problems. Neither my NWS radar nor GR3 is showing current. METAR seems to be operating normally at the moment. Hopefully they will get it all ironed out shortly. Having nice but hot weather here so it's not a serious problem as it stands. But that looks to get increasingly stormier in the next day or so :!:
On a second glance it looks as if maybe the radar data is fairly recent but the status is showing things to be very tardy.

Thanks for the info everyone!

My GR3 was running about 25 minutes behind yesterday evening as big thunderstorms were building, but it finally caught up. Radar doesn't do much good being that far behind. Today, only 4 minutes off, which is normal for near real-time. Two confirmed tornadoes last night. Whitman village got hit the hardest, with 2 homes completely destroyed. That's why our insurance rates are so high here. https://panhandle.newschannelnebraska.com/story/50954079/tornado-in-whitman-injures-one-destroys-homes

Mine was way off around 1 or 2 this morning then caught up. Looks like it’s close now but not enough to satisfy the status script. They must really have a major problem for things to be messed up this badly and especially when in the midst of tornado areas

Yes, the whole College Park datacenter was having issues and restoration work is still underway.
The radar status page is again 'stale'.. they're working on fixing all issues.  At least the radar images are flowing (if not the accurate status thereof).

Thanks Ken !  Did that message come through under ADMSDM ?  I missed it somehow if so
There’s evidently a major problem with their system and it’s ability to fail over

There may not be much of a backup for level 3 Radar data. This appears to be affecting the WFO’s to some extent as well. Hopefully it won’t affect the warning time frame. I’m getting most if not all the advisory products from the WFO’s I monitor here

Thanks for the help !

UpDate:

Radar was current for a couple of hours during the early am hours yesterday and for some time during the afternoon hours yesterday.
They must have a real head scratcher going on in Maryland. I was getting warning products on my web page as well as WXwire in a timely manner.

I think all of this is trying me to save up and get some better feeds on payday LOL
