Topic: Atlas Rain Gauge Calibration

Morning Weather Nerds.

I'm about to replace my Iris with an Atlas this weekend.
Question:
How good is the calibration of the rain gauge on the Atlas from factory?

When I got the Iris in 2017 my rain gauge was way off and someone here posted
a procedure that involved a syringe which cuts down on time that the suggested procedure
with the plastic cup and the pin hole takes.
From that day forward my Iris matched up with other local stations and official numbers.

Does that same procedure work for the Atlas? Me thinks not, as the buckets seem a lot bigger.

Any thoughts or suggestions from the hive mind are welcome.

I just answered my own question but instead of deleting my post I felt

The 5-in-1 measures 1.06" after draining the 8oz cup into it, the 7-in-1 measures only 0.61"
so the syringe method still works but has to be modified and the "how-to" is also in that
post that I linked here.

I tried the official Acurite method and also the one described in the link, but never manged to get the rainfall to match with my manual measurements (within +/-5% error margin). In the end, I calibrated my aws based on manual rain measurements, just adjusted the calibration screws up or down (half turn or quarter turn on both the screws uniformly) as required. It took me three/four rain events to get it right. Of-course, to do this you will need a precision manual rain gauge, I used a Stratus rain gauge for this purpose. It has been 5/6 years since my last calibration, the rainfall value is still holding good.

It is easy to overpower any dip bucket rain gauge adding too much water too fast.

Often though it is the collection of rain that is inaccurate.   That is the splash out of rain that is not collected that comes into question.

Your best bet is use a good manual rain collector, then compare that number to the weather station.
